The Musée du Débarquement (D-Day Museum) of Arromanches, Normandy, explains the technical prowess used during the prefabrication in Britain of the artificial port of Arromanches. A model and a film complement the educational presentation. A large map of Arromanches fills the upper floor with a digital display of the Mulberry construction.
The Landing Museum (D-Day Museum) at Arromanches was the first museum built to present the events from 6 June 1944 onward in Normandy. Funded by the sale of the wrecks littering the surrounding coastal area, the museum was inaugurated on 5 June 1954. The museum was reopened in 2023 following a full refurbishment and update.
The museum is located right in front of the former artificial port and explains how the facility was constructed and used. A large cinema explains the Allied landings and the importance of the construction of the Mulberry Harbour, enhancing visitors’ knowledge and understanding.
The upper floor has an excellent collection of uniforms and equipment. This is supplemented by the models which detail the sections of the Mulberry Harbour and how it worked.
On the upper floor is a larger map table of the coastline and the town of Arromanches. A digital display and story take place on this map, projected from above, explaining the period from D-Day to final completion of the Mulberry Harbour.
